Rep. Lee Hewitt is a small business owner who has experience in local and state government. He is the Assistant Chief Majority Whip -- the second highest whip position in the House of Representatives.

Lee serves on the powerful Ways and Means Committee, where he serves as chairman of the Property Tax Subcommittee and as a member of the Healthcare Budget Subcommittee. He also serves on the Economic Development and Utility Modernization Ad Hoc Committee.

Lee has been awarded Legislator of the Year twice. In 2018 by the S.C. Association of Realtors, the first freshman legislator ever win the award, and in 2022 by the S.C. Farm Bureau.

Lee is owner of Garden City Realty and has served as President of the Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors and on the board of the state Association of Realtors. He is a Certified Residential Specialist, a Certified Professional Mediator, and a graduate of the Realtors Institute.

Lee has served local government in many capacities: Georgetown Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals Chairman, Georgetown County Comprehensive Land Use Plan Committee, Grand Strand Area Transportation Committee, and the Southern Evacuation Lifeline Road Task Force.

In 2014, Lee was appointed by Gov. Nikki Haley and confirmed by the state Senate as the 7th Congressional District Representative to the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control Board of Directors.

Lee believes in giving back to the community, volunteering his time for civic groups and to help others. Lee’s community service achievements include being a charter member of the Murrells Inlet Rotary Club, an AAU youth basketball coach, and a founder and current Co-Chairman of the Murrells Inlet 4th of July Boat Parade, which not only brings thousands of visitors to Murrells Inlet each year, but has raised over $275,000 for Boy Scout Troop 396 over the years.

He is a 1982 graduate of Coastal Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Lee has lived in Murrells Inlet for nearly 40 years and is an active member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Whitney, have two sons, William and Coleman.

Lee is an avid hunter and fisherman.
